Let’s tackle Sugarloaf Mountain on foot! Mara Kavanaugh, a Maine native and avid hiker, will lead us to the summit for spectacular views of the High Peaks Region and the Bigelow Mountain Range. Enjoy springtime and socializing (at a safe distance) with like-minded people as you check-off Maine’s second-highest peak (4237 feet)!
The Skowhegan AmeriCorps Outdoor Recreation Program (SAORP) will be meeting at the Main Street Skowhegan (MSS) Office at 8:30 a.m. If you don’t have your own transportation, let us know ahead of time by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you’d like to meet us at the trailhead, follow this link for directions: https://www.mainetrailfinder.com/trails/trail/appalachian-trail-sugarloaf-mountain. The hike will start at 10 a.m. at the Caribou Pond Road Parking Lot. The hike will be over five miles. It is rated as advanced/difficult. Please bring water, lunch, and plenty of snacks. The trail may be icy–be prepared by bringing spikes, snowshoes, or some type of traction device. If you need to borrow snowshoes from our gear library, fill out this form: https://forms.gle/Eq3y8rM4LnEFzLhHA.
This is a free community event of SAORP and MSS.
